Owner: Rebecca Koehler
Cat's Name: Oslo
Age: 5 years 6 months
Breed: Coon / Mix

"Oslo is from a family farm in Pleasantville, Ohio where we adopted him as a kitten. He has lived with us in many different houses and apartments in several states, always making new friends and knowing more people and animals in the neighborhood than my husband and I do. He is very fond of catching mice and chipmunks currently and is also fond of watching the neighborhood dogs go for walks. He is the most vocal cat I have ever met and announces his presence when entering any room."

Congratulations Oslo!

Age: 1 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Janet and Dale have to say about their beautiful kitty, Misty.

"Here's Misty, our "glamour puss" at the make-up mirror getting ready for her day. We rescued her and her twin sister, Mandy, from the local animal shelter at 8 weeks old. Misty loves to play and even brings you the toy she wants to play with. She's a bundle of energy and never fails to keep us entertained. As it turns out she really rescued us. We are blessed that she picks us as her humans. "

May 2008 Cat Connection Winner

Owner: Katrina Cormack
Cat's Names: Tabitha
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 6 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Katrina has to say about her wonderful kitty, Tabitha.

"I fostered Tabitha as a 5 week old feral kitten through Caithness Cats Protection. Her and her brother took a long time to tame but eventually came round with a lot of persuasion from myself, my husband and our other cats. As we had spent a lot of time taming them we formed too strong a bond to even think about re-homing either of them so adopted them instead. She is now one of the friendliest of our cats and as you can tell by her picture she loves to cuddle up in our bed or on some ones knee.

Congratulations Tabitha!

April 2008 Cat Connection Winner

Bella - April 2008 Cat Connection Winner
Owner: Dennis Mathias
Cat's Name: Bella
Breed: Domestic Short Hair (Tortise Shell)
Age: 5 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Anna has to say about her incredible kitty, Dennis.

"Those eyes! They have always been the first thing you note about our six-year old Bella. Her name means 'beautiful' and we fell in love with those wide eyes almost too big for her kitten face, filled with curiosity and trust, when we found her picture cradled in the arms of a Cat House volunteer.

The Cat House, Lincoln, Nebraska’s only no-kill shelter, told us that Bella’s momma had been a pregnant cat that had been dumped during the cold winter of 2002. Bella and her two brothers were born February 14th in All Feline Hospital and for her first months only knew love, nurturing, and safety when we came to adopt her to complete our family and be a “sister” to our other found kitten, Skeeter.

Bella thinks of herself as a pampered princess filled with energy, confidence, and love. She has never really known adversity. She is a bit high-strung, but her runs in the self-made obstacle course through the house, leaping over and around furniture, scattering area rugs and narrowly missing lamps and vases wrings the anxiety out of her and creates awe in all who watch her.

We know who her mother was – who also found a home through the Cat House – but we have always theorized that Bella’s father must have been a bird. She loves to fly with amazing leaps around her cat trees to the real trees in our enclosed back yard. She loves to pursue laser dots and reflections off watches and glasses.

When our little princess wants to unwind any lap is considered her property and the moment one of us gets up in the morning, the warm spot in bed is claimed. Or, her latest haunt is our newly redone attic. Bella thinks we made it all for her and is often found lounging in the sun or in the heat of the fireplace, preferably on her back, legs splayed open to maximize exposure to her belly. She also has excellent views of the birds where she gets her inspirations for her next leaps of wonder and chatters her desire to “play” with them.

Bella loves her life and does say ‘thank you’ to the wonderful people of The Cat House for starting her off, her buddy Skeeter, and us. She does vocalize her love or shimmies her way to a comfortable burrow next to us and reminds all around what is really important in life."

Congratulations Bella!

Beau - March 2008 Cat Connection Winner

Owner: Anna Timone
Cat's Names: Jacques
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 19 months old

About the Winner:
Here is what Anna has to say about her wonderful kitty, Jacques.

"Jacques was found on the streets in the Bronx in August 2006. He was taken to a shelter on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where I found him two days later. When I picked him up, he grabbed onto me for dear life and didn't want to let go for a moment! Even now that he is almost 2 years old, he waits for me by the door - and always knows when I am coming home!  He won't leave my feet until I pick him up and hold him.

Jacques was 6 weeks old when I adopted him, and he has become such a major part of my life! He likes to play with all kinds of toys - little springs being his favorite. I have a small stuffed animal frog wearing a fairy dress (don't ask) and I always come home to find it in a different place. He ignores his froggie girlfriend when I am around, not wanting to make me jealous! Speaking of jealousy, whenever I am visiting a friend with a cat or dog, Jacques sniffs around the moment I walk into the door, and is not happy at all to smell the other animal on me! He really wants me all to himself.

In addition to his many, many toys, Jacques has invented an interesting game of his own.  He hops on a stack of decorative boxes next to my bookcase, then hops onto the bookcase. From there he moves along to the curtain rod, doing his special tight-rope walking act for me. Sometimes he tries to nap up there but never quite gets comfortable enough. Sometimes he just paces. When it's time to come down, he shakes his hips back and forth, focusing on the soft leather couch, his landing pad.  Then with a burst of lower body strength, he pushes off and flies through the air, landing gracefully on the coach.  My friend Martine who lives in Paris calls him, "le chat volant," because he is the flying cat! The photo that I submitted was an action shot of him jumping from the curtains to the couch.  I have so many fun photos of him, but this one really captured his spirit of adventure.

He likes to sit on a throw rug by my sliding glass doors and check out the squirrel and chipmunk action outside. They come just to tease him and he goes nuts, whipping his tail back and forth, wanting to get out there and teach them a lesson or two about teasing!  Every once in awhile, if he is lucky, a big deer or a flock of wild turkeys will stroll by. Ah, the entertainment of the sliding glass door.

Being a teacher, I have a good amount of time off, during which I like to travel. Jacques likes to go on vacation at this time too - he visits his "grandparents."  My mom makes him little beds out of towels in front of all the action-windows, so that he can enjoy the wildlife. Over spring break, he was fascinated by the nest-building behind the bathroom shutters! He likes to jump out at my dad and my little brother and scare them (they are not as amused with this as my mother is!).

I usually awake to find Jacques sleeping somewhere on my bed, and the location is always surprising! He explores at night, but always winds up somewhere near me - occasionally right next to my face, so that the first thing I see when I wake up is Jacques' perfect sleeping kitty self. He is truly a sweet being, and I am so happy that he is a part of my world!"

Congratulations Jacques!

Kluane - March 2008 Cat Connection Winner
Owner: Libby Miller
Cat's Name: Kluane
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 10 months old

About the Winner:
Here is what Libby has to say about her incredible kitty, Kluane.

"Kluane was rescued by the humane society when she was five weeks old. Due to a large amount of stray cats taken in by the shelter, Kluane and her siblings were scheduled for euthanasia. I hadn't been planning on adopting an animal when I stopped by the shelter.

Kluane is a very interesting kitty cat. We joke that she's a miniature mountain lion. She can be very feisty and playful, but she also loves to snuggle at night under the blankets with us!! Her favorite toy, believe it or not, is any kind of drinking straw. She also loves her laser pointer and her little stuffed teddy bear. Her favorite part of the house is up on top of the kitchen cupboards. There's a couple feet clearance between the top of the cupboard and the ceiling and she loves to perch up there and watch everything. Sometimes we feel like we're being stalked by our own little mountain lion!

When I walked into the 'cat room', what seemed like hundreds of cats started meowing and climbing the doors of their cages. I was instantly drawn to this sweet kitty looking at me with big blue eyes. What I liked about her was that in the midst of all this noise, she wasn't making a peep. Ten months later, she still rarely meows and is the most curious and playful kitten I have ever met."

Congratulations Kluane!

Beau - March 2008 Cat Connection Winner

Owner: Kaitlin Banotai
Cat's Names: Beau
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 3.5 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Kaitlin has to say about her wonderful kitty, Beau.

"When Beau was only about a year old, he was put up for adoption by his previous owners. A coworker of mine who did animal rescues asked me if I would like to adopt him. Although I lived in an apartment at the time and pets were not allowed, there was no way I could say no to him.

Beau has the most wonderful, outgoing personality of any cat I have ever met. Whether we have a house full of people or its just the two of us, Beau always has to be right in the middle of everything and everyone, just wanting as much attention as he can get.  He will play with any cat, dog, or other animal whether they're interested in playing with him or not. All in all, Beau just has the most wonderful temperament and is the absolute sweetest. He is the most spoiled cat around and we don't know what we would do without him!

Although he's only a little over three years old, he's been a lucky guy considering all that he's been through. In the first year I had him; he escaped and went missing for a few days. He finally found his way back and apparently had gotten hit by a car, according to the vet. He made a full recovery only to suffer a urinary blockage the following winter, which progressed to the point where he had to have major surgery to basically save his life. Regardless of everything, he continues to be the most loving, curious guy, who thrives on being the center of attention.

Beau's favorite types of toys are furry mice and fur balls that we are constantly trying to dig out from underneath the couch, stove or refrigerator because he tends to get carried away with chasing them!  He doesn't really have a 'favorite' part of the house since he is pretty much 'king' so he goes anywhere and everywhere he pleases!  However, he is constantly looking out the windows at the neighborhood outdoor cats because he would love more than anything to get out there and play with them.  Unfortunately since he's already had one accident before, we can't let him outside to play with his friends.

Beau loves to snuggle whenever my boyfriend and I are lounging on the couch, he always has to be right in between the two of us.  Also when bedtime rolls around he loves falling asleep on our stomachs and purring very loudly. Every morning when I get ready for work, he sits in the bathroom sink and looks up at me as I blow dry my hair. He usually jumps out and follows me around after I'm finished with this exception of this day when I walked back in after I was about to leave and found him sound asleep in the sink."

Congratulations Beau!

Cassie - January 2008 Cat Connection Winner
Owner: Rebecca Hutchison
Cat's Name: Moscow
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 3 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Rebecca has to say about her incredible kitty, Moscow.

"Moscow was adopted when she was about 8 weeks old at a nearby facility. When she came home with the family, she had very prickly fur, but in time she outgrew it and became more and more lovable. She has angel eyes and the whole family loves her. Recently she got sick and had to go about a week with a lampshade collar thing on her, and this picture was taken the day after it was removed.

Moscow likes to spend a lot of time in the living room, near the window. We joke that our cats like to sun bathe. Moscow is a little shy, but by far the most unique of our cats, and not only because of her name. She will come in to the bedroom and walk all over you meowing and purring, pushing her bony little feet right into you where she knows you're soft.

Moscow loves to play with cords of any type. She recently got a hold of my new pair of earphones and... to put it simply, they are no more. She's friendly and loving but if you want a snuggle bug, she's not the cat to go to. She sometimes snuggles but mostly she comes to you when she wants something or needs something.

Thank you SO MUCH for letting Moscow and myself have the opportunity to participate in this event"

Congratulations Moscow!

Scooter - January 2008 Cat Connection Winner

Owner: Heather Gowrie
Cat's Names: Lucy
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 3 years old

About the Winner:
Here is what Heather has to say about her wonderful kitty, Lucy.

"Lucy must be the center of attention at all times. She loves to “talk” to you and will always meow back when spoken to. She has fur like a bunny and the loudest motor you have ever heard.

My husband and I adopted Lucy when she was a kitten and at the time, everyone at the vet “wished us the luck,” as she was considered the problem kitten on the block. That day, we also adopted a male kitten (Dezi) who was mellow compared to her. Fast forward 3 years later and they have completed switched personalities. Dezi is a terror while Lucy is the most loveable cat ever.

Lucy’s favorite toys are catnip mice, balls with bells, and plastic bottle caps for paw hockey. Lucy’s favorite spot in the house is wherever I am. My husband jokes that I am the Pied Piper of cats because Lucy can not leave the 2 foot perimeter around me. When it’s time for bed, she jumps up and snuggles right in to go to sleep next to me. When I take a shower or bath, she sits right there in the bathroom waiting for me to get out. In the mornings if she thinks it’s time to get up, sleeping in is not an option. She starts walking back and forth over us, then starts licking and biting our noses. Most of the time it is cute but sometimes it is truly annoying.

When it comes to water, Lucy doesn’t like drinking out of her cat water fountain. She stands with her two front feet in the sink and starts meowing until I turn the water on. She drinks from the water coming out of the faucet like it’s her own personal fountain and she'll do that for an hour unless we shut the tap off.

I am so lucky to have found and adopted Lucy. She is truly the cutest, most affectionate cat ever with her bunny-soft fur, loud purr, and “non-stop” meow. Now if she could just teach Dezi a few things, we'd be good."

Congratulations Lucy!
